The Christophers
December 16, 2026
The Christophers is a smart, witty and surprisingly moving comedy-drama from acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh, starring the wonderful Ian McKellen (in a Tour de force performance) as Julian Sklar, a once-celebrated London painter who has retreated from the world—and from his estranged children. Hoping to secure their inheritance, his children hire Lori (Michaela Coel), a struggling young artist and talented forger, to pose as Julian’s assistant and secretly gain access to a valuable collection of unfinished paintings. What begins as an elaborate deception develops into an unexpected and touching relationship between two artists from very different generations. Funny, perceptive and full of terrific performances, The Christophers explores aging, family, ambition, creativity and the complicated question of what we leave behind. Critics have responded enthusiastically, with the film currently earning a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
PARKING IS NON-EXISTANT at the church, please plan to walk, park on the street or call SV for a ride at least 48 hours ahead at 415-332-3325. Thanks!
