This month: I Swear
I Swear (2025), directed by Kirk Jones, is a biographical drama based on the life of Scottish Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson. Set primarily in 1980s Scotland, the film follows John from a confident, football-loving boy into adolescence, where he begins to experience uncontrollable tics and outbursts that isolate him from school, family, and society. As misunderstanding and cruelty mount, his journey becomes one of resilience, self-acceptance, and eventual advocacy for others living with Tourette’s. Robert Aramayo delivers a widely praised performance as the adult John, capturing both vulnerability and defiance.
Blending humor with emotional weight, the film avoids easy sentimentality, instead presenting a raw yet compassionate portrait of difference. It traces how Davidson ultimately transforms personal struggle into public purpose, helping to raise awareness and challenge stigma. Critically acclaimed, I Swear earned multiple nominations at the BAFTA Awards, winning Best Actor for Aramayo.
PARKING IS NON-EXISTANT at the church, please plan to walk, park on the street or call SV for a ride at least 48 hours ahead at 415-332-3325. Thanks!
